about
This track was written to represent how landscapes can change over time and the sense of vacancy there is when you see an area that (at face value) lacks purpose due to recent changes. The track reflects this in its sparse and almost haunting nature.
The main inspiration for this was when I witnessed first-hand the aftermath of cutting down considerable sections of forest in an area of Wales that I often visit for creative inspiration. There was a sense of bereavement or loss when I saw a large section of woods had been cut down opposite the old slate miner's cottage where I stay. A part of a picturesque landscape had been removed, leaving this huge clearing.
It made me think that the wide openings of space you see when exploring new areas nearly always will have reasoning as to why they're like how they are. From unused land in urban areas to gaps where trees had once grown - I find it intriguing that there’s always a story behind these clearings. [Guy]

I was listening to the track which Guy had named “the Clearing” already and I thought of this beautiful forest, lush green and in the middle - a clearing. To breathe. To stop.
While I was running through the forest I realised; I am running. I am tired. I am barefoot. My heart is running, it is barefoot. It was exhausted. I had been running for a long time. At the same time this project came a long I did stop, pause and look around. And I found myself in “the Clearing”. [Alev]
lyrics
Are those blisters on your heart?
You need healing, barefoot heart
All those blisters on your heart
You’ve been running barefoot, heart
Are those blisters on your heart?
You’ve been running, barefoot heart
Come to healing, barefoot heart

Guy Andrews, Alev Lenz,
LORN's music is as fascinating as it is disturbing and brutal. The sound is purely evil. Listening to this on a (very) good stereo or good headphones IS an experience. LORN's crispy 24bit flacs just add "the" extra little punch. Love it, great artist. Marcs
The album flows together really well, and while it's not as ambient as a lot of other stuff out there, the album still creates a really strong sense of place and emotion. Willow Ormshaw
